Congratulations to our Ladies A team, captained by Eithne O’Neill in bringing home the Ladies A cup for the first time. The team gave a spectacular performance in a thrilling game, defeating defending champions Singapore in a 1-6 to 0-0 victory. This has lifted the club to new heights. Great credit goes to ladies coach Jussara Bierman and head coach Peter Mooney in preparing the ladies team for this remarkable victory.
Well done to our other 3 teams who competed at the games over the weekend. The ladies B team reached the Plate Final, but were unlucky to lose out to Thailand by a last kick of the game point. The Men’s A team reached the quarter final of the B Cup. The Men’s B team merged with Suzhou and competed in the C competition.
The club is also extremely honoured to have 6 ladies awarded All Stars. Congratulations goes to Emma Byrne, Louise Byrne, Marie Claire Murphy, Heidi Johnson, Jessica Riordan and Grace McNamara. Congratulations also to Emma Byrne in being awarded Ladies MVP for the tournament. This has been an outstanding year for Ladies Gaelic football in Shanghai GAA. They have certainly made their mark as a force to be reckoned within the Asian region.
Thanks to all who travelled to KL to support the teams in all the games throughout the competition. Special thanks to Adrian Donoghue for assisting on the sideline on all our games. All our activities in the lead up to and including the games would not have been possible without or sponsors. Thanks to Moore Watson, The Camel and The Blarney Stone, PM Group, Shanghai Ireland Association, Pacific Prime, The Kerry Hotel, GWM and WHS.
Celebration: In recognition of our new Asian champions, one of our club sponsors Mr. Nick Watson has asked us to join him in his birthday party in Tam’s Bar on Yongjia Lu this Saturday, at 7:30 pm. Later at 10pm, we will proceed from there to the Blarney Stone Pub on Yongkang Lu to continue in honouring the Ladies win. Please join us in celebrating and supporting our sponsors.
Training: The club will continue with its well earned break and as a result there will be no training this Saturday (19th Oct). Training will resume again as normal on Tuesday, 22nd Oct in Luwan Stadium.
