CHINA GAMES REPORT

What a fantastic weekend for Shanghai Gaelic Football Club with both our Ladies and Men’s A teams winning the 2013 All China Games.

Congratulations to both teams and their respective captains Michelle Surlis and John McGuiggan and to Club Coach Peter Mooney and Ladies’ Coach Jussara Bierman.  Congratulations also to Grace McNamara who landed the MVP award for the Ladies tournament. Well done also to our B teams who gave it their all under Captains Catriona Scanlon and Brian Murray.  And thanks to those non-playing club members who helped the squads and to our many sponsors who helped make the above successes possible.

We should also record our thanks to Beijing GAA for organising a superb tournament and weekend that was enjoyed by all. Club Chairman, Brian Murphy, has written to them thanking them for their efforts and congratulating them on a successful event.

Unfortunately Adrian Donaghue broke his collar bone whilst playing – it was operated on yesterday and everyone in the club sends our best wishes to Adrian for a speedy recovery.  Adrian has asked us to point out that the whole treatment will cost a minimum of 150,000 rmb and possibly at least 175,000 rmb and he’s fortunate that his insurance covers same – it absolutely proves the point that all players should have proper insurance cover whilst playing sports in China. If you don’t have it, then you should arrange it immediately. Contact our sponsors Pacific Prime at http://www.pacificprime.com or email stephen@pacificprime.com .

The next big GAA event and the highlight of our year, is the Asia Games in Kuala Lumpur on 12 and 13 October. Members should look at booking flights soon to avail of good prices with Air Asia amongst others.
